Second Prize Emerging Crafts - Estelle Bourdet, weaver in Gryon

This prize rewards the talent and strong development potential of a young craftswoman.

Like the warp and weft threads that go hand in hand, Estelle Bourdet combines tradition and modernity to create her unique pieces. By reinterpreting a traditional know-how typical of her second country of origin, Sweden, she weaves large strips of collected fabrics to give them a second life. Often of domestic origin, they invest again and in another form the rooms of the house, thus making appear a formal dialogue or the emergence of a memory. As for modernity, it is expressed through motifs and symbols taken from a collection of personal digital drawings inscribed on textile surfaces. Intuitive, sometimes geometric, the overall aesthetic is comforting. Back and forth between the computer screen where the drawing is conceived and the nearby loom, where the shuttle concretizes the digital sketch, are born unique works dedicated to our domestic spaces.
