Swiss master craftsman - Matteo Gonet, master glassmaker in Munchenstein

Matteo Gonet, master glassmaker in Munchenstein

This prize rewards an emeritus craftsman for all his work and his influence, in Switzerland and abroad. Trophy "Swiss Master of Art". Financial grant of CHF 10,000.

Matteo Gonet learned to blow glass by criss-crossing Germany, Italy, France and even England from an early age. For more than 25 years now, he has mastered this art of fire, which involves working the body in its entirety: the strength and finesse of the gesture, the precision of the breath and the concentration of the mind must meet in order to transform a mass of incandescent material into a single, precise object in the space of a few seconds. A brilliant artist and talented craftsman, he has put ancestral traditions that he masters to perfection at the service of modernity. Whether supporting marble slabs with glass globes or shaping nearly 8,000 colored spheres to adorn a building, the master glassmaker can meet the most irrational desires of many designers, architects, artists and scenographers with which he collaborates from his workshop located in the suburbs of Basel. And if, at the time, it was the man who traveled in search of experiences, today it is his works that are dispersed throughout the world.
