United Arab Emirates - The 44th World Skills Competitions will take place in 2017 in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, October 15 to 18, 2017

The 44th World Skills Competitions will take place from October 15-18, 2017 in Abu Dhabi. 1200 young participants from all over the world will compete with the best in their profession.

The WorldSkills Competitions take place every two years in a different place each time. 50 different professions from crafts, industry and the service sector are in competition. The competitions are organized by WorldSkills International, an organization where 77 nations are represented. Young professionals aged 22 and under are allowed to participate.

Switzerland’s participation in these competitions is organized by the SwissSkills Foundation, which aims to promote vocational training to the general public. The Confederation, the cantons, the schools as well as the professional organizations are partners of the foundation.

38 young Swiss professionals will compete in October against the world elite. Among them, several representatives of crafts:

  • Jean-Luc Braun, stonemason, St. Margrethen
  • Andreas Marbacher, decoration painter, Küssnacht am Rigi
  • Tobias Hugentobler, cabinetmaker, Rickenbach b. Will
  • Roger Huwyler, carpenter, Bex
  • Nicole Leyssing-von Ah, clothing designer, Alpnach Dorf
