The craftsman covers the roofs with shingles, i.e. 4 layers of wood, which can roughly be compared to “wooden tiles” which are thicker than the roof tiles. The shingles are made of planks of wood (chestnut, spruce or larch in general) split into the grain.
These different types of wooden covering help protect roofs and facades from bad weather. This tile-shaped board is used as a roofing and cladding material.
A roof covering serves as both traditional thermal insulation and protection against bad weather. It is widespread in many regions of the world, particularly in France in the Jura massif, the Alps, the Pyrenees, the Creuse, but also the island of Reunion and Corsica.
