About
For many years, Daniel Gerber has been passionately restoring antique furniture, including the Eames Long Chair, in his small workshop at Rathausgasse 12. He takes care to preserve the historical character of each object, to reflect the constructions of the corresponding period, and to carefully correct any wear or damage. He always tries to find a method that takes into account the piece of furniture and its condition.
Daniel Gerber works with materials that carpenters and joiners also used in previous centuries, such as bone and fish glue. He assembles the lacquers himself, mainly shellac, and applies them by hand.
The goal of every restoration is for the antique piece of furniture to still be an antique piece of furniture, but to work again and be beautiful and a pleasure for decades to come.
