About
For many years, Daniel Gerber has been passionately restoring antique furniture, including the Eames Long Chair, in his small workshop at Rathausgasse 12. He takes care to preserve the historical character of each object, to respond to the constructions of the time corresponding and to carefully correct any wear or damage. He always tries to find a way that takes into account the piece of furniture and its condition.
Daniel Gerber works with materials that carpenters and joiners also used in previous centuries, such as bone or fish glue. He assembles the lacquers himself, mainly shellac, and applies them by hand.
The goal of every restoration is that the antique piece of furniture is still an antique piece of furniture, but that it works again and looks good and is a pleasure for decades to come.
