Hélène Henchoz
Felt pot
La Tine

« I have always loved sheep. So it was quite naturally that I turned to working with wool. »

About

Hélène Henchoz has always loved wool. As a child, she knits before turning to felt. Anxious to perfect her know-how, she regularly follows training courses, in particular with other felt makers she meets on the internet or with the Hat Museum in Chazelles-sur-Lyon. Since 2017, she has been selling her creations in the markets and at the Laine d’ici store in Cernier.

« The transformation of wool into felt is physical, you have to rub, squeeze the wool, all with your hands in the water. »

In her house in the Pays-d’Enhaut, Hélène Henchoz spreads the wool, moistens it, covers it with a mosquito net and then brushes it gently with soapy water until the fiber tightens. The felt is then drummed, tightened then rinsed and is gradually transformed into coats, hats and other stoles. She works both custom-made and on her own creations.
