About
Born in 1972 in Paris to a violinist father, Sébastien Lavielle has always been fascinated by the instruments of the quartet. In 1990, he trained in violin making in Cremona with Claudio Amighetti. After working in Paris as a luthier and bow maker, he moved to New York where he worked for various houses including the Matthias Lehner workshop. In 2017, he took over Pierre Mastrangelo’s studio in Lausanne.
The workshop was founded in 1934 by Pierre Gerber. From 1971, he was assisted by Pierre Mastrangelo who succeeded him in 1987. From September 2017, Sébastien Lavielle, assisted by Jérémie Bonnet, took over the reins of the house, renowned since its creation for its research into sound quality and for its restorations of violins, cellos, violas and bows with professional and amateur musicians.
