About

Jean-Philippe Mayerat, better known by the nickname Mayu, learned his trade at the Max Vouga shipyard in Versoix. After ten years of practice, in 1983, he created his workshop specializing in the construction and restoration of the boats that populated Lake Geneva before the arrival of plastic. The workshop also carries out usual repair and maintenance work on wooden boats.

« Shipbuilding is not an exact science. I work with my eyes and my hands. Less with the square as in other woodworking trades. In a boat, everything is curved. »

The naviot (annex) of the Geneva barque Neptune, the whaleboat with ten rowers from the rescue section of Saint-Prex or the whaleboat from the rescue of Ouchy, fishing and pleasure boats, yacht, as many boats passed through the workshop of Jean-Philippe Mayerat. And as many indigenous woods as larch, spruce, oak or even acacia.
