Michel Mottier
Wooden cream spoon sculptor
Château-d'Oex

« The secret is to choose the right wood. You have to go there, look with the loggers at what they have put aside. Then it goes by itself. »

About

In the 1960s, Michel Mottier began carving wooden cream spoons in his free time to occupy his mind. At almost eighty years old, this self-taught and discreet sculptor continues to create his favorite objects, which he sells mainly to farmers in his region and to passing tourists.

« Each spoon has its own subject, its own sculpture. I like that they differ from each other. »

Michel Mottier does not have a workshop, he makes his wooden spoons on a corner of the kitchen table. Using a few scalpels, two gouges and a chisel, he transforms carefully selected pieces of raw wood into unique sculptures in natural wood.
