About
Ernst Oppliger strikes a balance between fine craftsmanship and so-called (high) art. Beginning with the traditional paper-cut art with subjects from alpine rural life, he gradually found a virtuoso technique - the message of the cut-out image also became increasingly important to him. For his themes, he is inspired by nature such as trees and animals. Its folds and reflections create confusing visual events that need to be unraveled.
As a "retired", he now turns more and more to woodworking. The beauty and diversity of the wood, sometimes already rotten, takes on its full meaning in his whimsical sculptures, worked with a chainsaw. Patient sculpting and grinding also creates smaller objects such as coat hangers and geometric shapes such as oloids under his hand.
Ernst Oppliger feels man's responsibility towards nature and contrasts his work with a rapid and superficial time
