Pierre-Yves Schenker
Cabinetmaker
Yverdon-les-Bains

« Cabinetmaking is an exciting profession. We start from a very raw material and we shape it into a whole, finished object, which will survive us for several centuries. »

About

A handyman at heart and passionate about wood, Pierre-Yves Schenker trained in cabinetmaking after considering becoming a mechanic by family tradition. At the end of his apprenticeship, he set up on his own. He works both for museums and for individuals. For the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, he made a replica of Gutenberg’s press. In addition, it trains people in social breakdown.

« Cabinetmaking is linked to history because it aims, among other things, to restore objects from another age. »

Pierre-Yves Schenker’s studio is an open space where about ten people work. Some are former apprentices of Pierre-Yves Schenker who are now self-employed, others are passing through as part of a particular project. All share a passion for solid and local wood and are committed to preserving their creative freedom in the face of industry and its standards.
