About
Jakob Stiefel was born in 1949 in Winterthur. After obtaining his CFC as a modeler-carpenter, he went to Australia where he learned to play the mandolin. His instrument not suiting him, he sets himself a challenge: design a better one himself. He then met a luthier who introduced him to the creation of violins; it will become a hobby then a passion to which he can give free rein today. The creation of stringed instruments begins with the search for the most suitable woods (curled maple, spruce, ebony). Follow the rules of the art to shape them to obtain the best sounds.
The workshop is richer in tools (gouges, planes, scrapers) than in machines because manual execution is largely predominant there. Jakob Stiefel also attaches great importance to sharing his know-how through demonstrations at craft markets and through the courses he organizes in his workshop.
