Historic Monuments Prize 2020: the passion for old wood

Department of Public Education and Culture, Newsletter March 2020

The owner of the imposing "Stuckihaus" in Reichenbach im Kandertal received the 2020 Historic Monuments Award from the Canton of Bern for the quality of the restoration of this building. The Special Prize 2020 was awarded to the members of the "Schwimmbad Gruebi" interest group in Adelboden.

The 2020 Historical Monuments Prize rewards the great care and consideration shown by Jonathan Jaggi for the renovation of the old farmhouse as well as his enormous personal investment and his impressive tenacity in this process. Jonathan Jaggi succeeded in creating a modern apartment thanks to his long-term work and his innovative ideas. The renovation of the facade, the culmination of the work, has made it possible to restore all its brilliance to the wooden structure.

The Special Prize of the Expert Commission for Heritage Protection rewards the unfailing commitment shown by the interest group “Schwimmbad Gruebi” in the professional renovation of this fascinating facility. The swimming pool was built in 1928 in the "Neues Bauen" style, according to plans by Beda Hefti. In keeping with the spirit of the times, vacationers should feel like they are at the seaside, despite being surrounded by magnificent mountains. Ten years ago, the swimming pool was about to close. Its reopening in the summer of 2019 is therefore all the more pleasing. Since it was renovated and transformed and brought back to life, the Adelboden swimming pool is one of the most beautiful open-air swimming pools in the Swiss Alps.
