Milan - Doppio Firma, double signature, a dialogue between design and artisanal excellence

The 2019 edition of Doppio Firma, "Double signature, a dialogue between design and artisanal excellence", will be unveiled at the Salone del Mobile in Milan, from April 9 to 14.

The idea of combining the talents of a designer and a maker is flourishing in Italy under the label Doppio Firma, as in France under the title "Prix Liliane Bettencourt pour l’intelligence de la main - Dialogues , combining know-how and imagination”. Our “Métiers d’art et design” prize is the Swiss version of the same idea.

Doppia Firma combines, at European level, innovation in design and high craftsmanship, creating a unique collection of original and refined objects. The objective is to give birth to new works resulting from a cross-fertilization of a design culture open to contemporary vision and a know-how that is a true expression of territorial singularity.

There are borders that are not inked on any map but are still very much in our minds: the dividing line between kitsch and authentic beauty, for example. Or the vast expanse between a hastily made object or a cheap imitation and an artefact lovingly crafted, crafted with talent and presented with pride. The Salone del Mobile, for which this exhibition was originally conceived, is a place where these lines converge: tradition finds originality, craftsmanship meets intuition and creativity leads to innovation. . With Doppia Firma, we have once again sought to create a space where dynamic design and flawless craftsmanship can blossom into something new and eloquent. We asked designers from eleven European countries to meet Italian craftsmen whose workshops are spread all over the country, from Friuli to Sicily. These multifaceted craftsmen, with often hidden talents, open their workshops, welcome new ideas, make unexpected friends and create surprising projects born of dialogue. The value of dialogue, cross-fertilization and exchange has faded in a world too easily dazzled by star power.
