Valérie de Roquemaurel, glassblower: “The must? Mixing the artistic with the utilitarian»

From carafe repairs to decorations for the Hôtel de Ville de Crissier, including majestic chandeliers, Valérie de Roquemaurel has been blowing glass for twenty years. Her passion? The light fixtures.

Through the glass, tell a story. On the left, shelves filled with glass creations of all colors. On the right, several massive furnaces, which we will learn that they can climb between 1100 and 1500°C approximately. In the peaceful village of Pomy (VD), Valérie de Roquemaurel works in a garage like no other. Finally, work, have fun, one might say. Because the glass blower sees her job as a game: “Each request is different and I have to find solutions to give a balance between the utility of the object and its artistic aspect. I try to understand the context, the history and the why of this request. It helps me to create more precisely.” Today, Valérie particularly enjoys making lights, which marvelously combine the utilitarian and the visual. Recently she received a request for a 3 meter chandelier weighing 60 kilos. "It's awesome!".
