Tribune de Genève, September 17, 2018, text Andrea Machalova

Bringing together in Venice, from September 14 to 30, the quintessence of European craftsmanship, such is the purpose of this exhibition, the first major event of the Michelangelo Foundation, created two years ago in Geneva.

Did you know that around forty different crafts are involved in the design of a watch? That cleaning 5 cm2 of an old painting can take up to eight hours? Or that when building gondolas the height and weight of the gondolier are taken into account? These are the kinds of questions that the exhibition “Homo Faber. Crafting a more human future”, which takes place in Venice until September 30. This is, to date, the largest event dedicated to the promotion and enhancement of European craftsmanship.

For a little over two weeks, the exhibition invests the fabulous setting of the Giorgio Cini Foundation, some 4000 m2, located on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, in Venice. With its many galleries, cloisters, libraries, and even a swimming pool from the 1960s, this former Benedictine monastery built in the 10th century, now a cultural center, is worth a visit for its incredible architecture alone. Not to mention the fact that most of these rooms will be exceptionally open to the public!
