About
Philippe Boichat learned woodwork with his grandfather. As a child, he watched him make seillons, vats and other butter churns and created his first piece. But he never made it his profession and worked for 20 years in watchmaking before returning to the agricultural world. Now retired, he continues to work with wood and passes on his know-how to his grandchildren.
Philippe Boichat’s workshop is located in his farm, an old building from 1615. Using tools that he partly forged himself, he works with wood species such as ash or fir. With a shingle iron, he splits logs into staves to make seilles and other barrels. To his knowledge, he is the only wood maker in the Jura. He sometimes sells his pieces to individuals.
