About
The last child of a family of twelve, André Gaignat was born in Cornol in 1941 in the house where his studio is located. From an early age, he became attached to his father’s activity. In 1996, he took over the workshop and he still works with the machines, a moulder and a digger, which his father had acquired in 1929. It is his way of honoring the know-how he has received.
André Gaignat’s workshop, the last active clog factory in Switzerland, welcomes nearly 2,000 visitors a year, mainly groups from all over Switzerland. The machines, which roll their stainless mechanics, shape the raw material and hold out their arms to the hand of the craftsman who comes to give substance to a vast choice of clogs to wear or ornament.
