About

Fascinated by the preparation of raw materials and cooking over a fire, Irène Saussure trained in ceramics and specialized in stove-making. In 2019, she opened her workshop. She makes utilitarian pottery there and gives classes to promote a more sustainable art that is more connected to the material: the objects, handcrafted by her students, must be used on a daily basis.

« My goal, in making ceramic objects, is that some will survive through time without going out of fashion and that families will still use them a hundred years from now without remembering their origin. »

Irène Saussure restores old stoves, tiled stoves and other atypical ovens according to the rules of the art. In addition, her workshop is a friendly place where she likes to combine other areas with her know-how. She is working in particular on a plastic art project on the theme of deep endometriosis, a disease which affects one in ten women.
