Jsabel Vontobel completed her three-year apprenticeship as a milliner at the traditional company Hut Balli AG in Ittigen. Immediately after her apprenticeship, her master retired and Jsabel Vontobel took over. In 2001, she went into business for herself - Hut Balli AG became Hut Balljsa AG. While previously a hat collection was produced twice a year for hat shops throughout Switzerland, the company increasingly specialised in historical and theatre hats.

Jsabel Vontobel also learned to sew straw and became an independent hatter. Hut Balljsa's specialties today are top hats, bowlers, 2- and 3-pointed hats, shakos, berets, caps and kepis. Not only the hats, but also the trimmings that go with them, such as rosettes, plaques, scale ribbons, etc. are still made by hand.
