Engraver

The engraver creates decorations, inscriptions or prints on jewelry, watches (dials, case and movement decorations, skeletons), medals or plaques. They work with metals like steel, brass, copper, gold, silver, pewter, titanium, etc. They create and execute hollow or raised work, by hand using a chisel, by machine, chemically or by other processes.

* The heraldist engraver engraves weapons and coats of arms intaglio and upside down on a gold or silver support using punches and stamps that he often makes himself. A specialist in symbols linked to coats of arms, he accurately reproduces the details, ratified by a wax proof.

* Using a chisel and an engraver or a laser, the engraver creates a matrix which will be used to stamp a metal blank. The engraving is done indented and upside down. After striking, the medal is trimmed, polished and patinated or treated by electrolysis.

Become an engraver

Training as a CFC engraver is acquired through apprenticeship in a company or full-time school. Duration 4 years. Improvements are possible.
