Doris Henchoz
Traditional cutting machine
L'Etivaz

« Decoupage merges creative imagination, drawing technique and extreme precision when handling the cutter or scissors. »

About

Attracted from her childhood by drawing and sewing, Doris Henchoz began cutting in 1984. Two years later, she participated in her first exhibition at La Lécherette.
A true ambassador of Pays-d'Enhaut paper cutting, she has exhibited in China and welcomed Han Jing, the undisputed master of Chinese paper cutting, to Etivaz in 2008.
Whether typical landscapes of the Pays-d'Enhaut, rural scenes, animals, flowers, or all together, the region's paper cuttings come from a traditional craft that arrived here at the beginning of the 19th century. Although Chinese in origin, cutting was adopted by a few amateurs then transmitted over time through collaboration and exchange.
Quite typical of Pays-d'Enhaut, cutting is today practiced by several artisans with varied styles who thus perpetuate the legacy of Johann Jakob Hauswirth (1809 to 1871), the father of the first poyas in Pays d'En -high.
Founded in 1986, the Swiss Association of Friends of Paper Cutting, with 500 members, aims to promote paper cutting in Switzerland. Her next exhibition, in which Doris Henchoz will participate, will take place at the Château de Prangins, from April 11 to September 28, 2024. Doris Henchoz, with the region's cutters, is currently exhibiting at the Musée du Vieux Pays-d'Enhaut in Château-d 'Oex.
