The weaver creates fabrics by interweaving warp (lengthwise) and weft (crosswise) threads, using either a manual hand loom or modern mechanical looms such as the blade loom or the Jacquard loom.
They work with a wide variety of natural fibers (cotton, wool, silk, hemp, linen) as well as artificial or synthetic fibers. Their productions can range from fabrics for haute couture, furnishings, traditional or contemporary costumes, to unique and artistic pieces.
The handloom weaver masters the manual action of the loom, ensuring great finesse in creation, often valued in artisanal or heritage fabrics. The profession requires a perfect knowledge of materials, weaves (complex crossings of threads), and a keen sense of rhythm and precision to obtain strong, harmonious, and aesthetically pleasing fabrics.
