The blacksmith profession conveys a powerful and alchemical image, combining the manipulation of primary elements with the sweat of work. It is a multidisciplinary profession par excellence, offering a vast field of action and an exceptional capacity for achievement. The blacksmith shapes the iron hot by forging, beating the metal with a hammer on an anvil. He creates large works, such as grilles, guardrails and stair banisters, as well as small decorative objects or furniture. The finished work can be polished, painted, patinated or left raw.
There is no specific training for the profession of blacksmith. However, a transfer of knowledge could be possible.
This profession is no longer versatile enough in today's society. By extending the initial training to a farrier CFC or a metal constructor CFC, apprentices are able to carry out more diverse tasks and will have a better chance of finding a job.
