The cabinetmaker designs and manufactures fitting furniture, stylish or creative furniture, individually or in small series. Traditionally attached to working with wood, especially rare and precious species, the profession opens up to the use of all types of materials: Corian, textiles, metal, glass, etc.
Cabinetmakers carry out more than three-quarters of their activity in manufacturing and work mainly with private individuals. Cabinetmakers are largely skilled in layout, contemporary creation, the manufacture of historical furniture and the restoration of furniture. As for the creation of a company, it takes place on average at 32 years old. Cabinetmaking is the sector that uses the highest proportion of apprentices and professional contracts in the furniture trades.
Cabinetmaker training is acquired through an apprenticeship in a company or in a full-time school. Duration 4 years. Practical in-company training takes place in a cabinet-making workshop or carpentry. Course location in Geneva or Lausanne. Improvements are possible.
